Title: Meet Your Storm Author: merrykk Rating: PG-15 (language, violence, occasional sexual references, brief sexuality) Length: ~64,000 words Characters: Kara, Sam, Kacey (most canon characters participate, also a few OCs) Pairings: Kara/Sam (most canon pairings appear) Warnings: Danger to a child. See also rating. Summary: Written for bsg_bigbang 2009. Exodus Pt. 2 AU. Leoben brought Kacey in to break Kara down, but when they manage to escape, Kara needs to take back control for them both. She comes back from New Caprica and the world’s all different, and it’s a struggle to find a place in the fleet—but Kara Thrace will fight her way to wherever she wants to be, and Sam will be on her side, no matter how long it takes. Credit: Huge thanks to my beta karate0kat , without which this story would not be the same! Huge thanks also to my artist kj_svala , whose gorgeous talent gave this story its finished look! Art: All art by kj_svala for this story may be found here. Disclaimers: Based on Battlestar Galactica; I do not own any of the characters or properties you recognize. Author's Introduction: I always thought that losing Kacey was what broke Kara the most thoroughly post-NC, by symbolizing for her the moment where she lost all control and gave in. When it seemed to be for a lie, she became unwilling to give in and accept help from anyone for a long, long time after. Considering the various traumas she’d already been through, though, there was no easy road. We saw which one the show had her go down; I wanted to see how slightly changed circumstances would give her different options and choices to make. I also wanted to explore the subjects of parenthood and trauma-recovery (especially for Kara, given her personality and background) in a way that the show, being action oriented, couldn't. That being said, I didn't think that a darkfic would serve justice to the characters; there are always a few bright moments even in the darkest of times. Well, my twelvecolonies challenge fic is now just shy of 25,000 words, but I've still got a couple full chapters left. *headdesk* I have now discovered that my absolute favorite BSG thing to write? Is the Opera House mythology. As soon as I get anywhere near it in a fic, my brain goes into squee mode and I start writing at super speeds. And despite being content with how it ended in canon, both times I've used it in a major way (so far) have been AU interpretations. Go figure. But, eeeee! Opera House visions! This is almost as much fun and invigorating to write as Kara's special destiny, which is my other form of BSG super-charge-inspiration. Also, this fic is not turning out nearly as shippy as I thought it would be. I think that's fine, but it's a little odd to write some of these characters and have it be just teamwork, not much else. Subtext is replacing text all over this fic, at least for these middle chapters. Tags: battlestar galactica, fanfiction

So, in my multi-shippery rounds on the internet recently, I noticed that both Kara/Lee and Kara/Sam fans are adamant that, whatever they think about the other ship, in the end (they say) Kara always goes back to their man. Who that man is depends on which side is talking. But they're both dead certain about it. Now that, my friends, is a contradiction. I'm not interested in a heated debate over who's right or wrong, or any cross-shippery discussion at all, at the moment. It's not really the right time for that for me, I'm just curious. Could someone sum up the main points for one or both sides? How can they both make that argument? Because I'm not sure I get it. Tags: kara/lee, kara/sam
